Campfire Cooking Tips & Recipes
Article by Andrew Taylor
Are you prepared to take on some cooking at your campfire? Whether you are going camping for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, you’re sure to get pretty bored of cold food, and that’s where your campfire comes in handy. A campfire is more than just a way to keep you warm and provide light; it can also help you eat well! There is more to campfire cooking than just s’mores and hotdogs, so take a bit of time and make sure that you consider what your choices are going to be when you’re pondering what you want to cook. Cooking around a campfire is actually much easier than you think!
When it comes to campfire cooking you will want consider using a grate grill. Grate grills are probably the most common as they are lightweight, pretty easy to use and easy to wash. When setting up your grate grill you will need to make a ring of stones around your campfire. Try to use fairly big stones as you will be resting the grill on top of them and you will want a couple of inches of clearance from the fire. Don’t make the rock ring too big either as your grill can fall into the fire. The grate grill allows you to cook pretty much anything that you can cook at home. Pork, chicken, seafood and vegetables. The list is virtually endless.
If you want to get fancy with your grill, consider buying some big portobello mushrooms and marinating them in a bag filled with balsamic vinegar, honey and garlic. Then pull them out of the bag when they are ready to be cooked and toss them on the grill; the results are delightful! Also think about placing your vegetables on a skewer to make sure that you’re going to be able to turn them with ease.
Also remember that you can create a great camping skillet meal with just a few simple items. you will need bacon, hash browns, eggs, milk, salt, cheese and onions. Begin by cooking the bacon in a skillet until it is well done. Take out the bacon and set it aside to be crumbled. Next you will toss the hash browns and the onion into the pan, sprinkling some salt onto it to your taste. Then cook the hash browns until they are lightly browned. Stir the eggs, a dash of salt and a third cup of milk together. Pour this over the hash browns in the pan and then cook without disturbing the mixture until it starts to set. Then lift and fold the mixture until some of the uncooked egg runs underneath it. Soon, the whole meal will be done, so throw on the bacon and some cheese; this is a great breakfast to eat right out of the pan!
With a bit of planning and creativity, you can cook some delicious and tasty meals. Obviously I am just scratching the surface on this topic. You can find thousands of different campfire cooking recipes on the internet. Go find those recipes and prepare well for that camping trip. Happy eating!
